Troop Hat (SHIPS Project)

 This pattern is for a knitted troop cap (helmet liner). The hat must measure 21” across the bottom and be at least 8½” long with no brim. On way to estimate the size is to put it on your own head – it should cover your ears and be no longer.

Size 7 needles are recommended but you should be sure to check your gauge 

BLACK for Ground Troops – ANY COLOR for Shipboard

Wool : ENCORE Worsted Weight 

Gauge : 20 sts + 28 rows + 4 inches (10 cm) 

FOR STRAIGHT NEEDLES

Cast on 80 sts. Work in K1, P1 or K2, P2 ribbing for 1½ - 2”

Begin Stockinette stitch (k on RS, p on WS) until total length is 8” 

Crown decreases

Row 1 K6, k2tog across row – 70 sts

Row 2 and all even rows: Purl

Row 3 K5, k2tog across row – 60 sts

Row 5 K4, k2tog across row – 50 sts

Row 7 K3, k2tog across row – 40 sts

Row 9 K2, k2tog across row – 30 sts

Row 11 K1, k2tog across row – 20 sts

Row 13 k2tog across row – 10 sts

Cut yarn leaving long tail. Weave tail through remaining stitches and pull tightly. Sew seam.

 FOR CIRCULAR NEEDLES

Cast on 80 stitches. (If you knit tightly, you may add more sts in multiples of 8)

Join and work in ribbing of K1, P1 or K2, P2 for 1½ - 2” Then knit all rounds until piece measures 8”

Round 1 K6, k2tog across row – 70 sts

Round 2 and all even rounds:  Knit

Continue having 1 less stitch before decreases as outlined for straight needles. Switch to double pointed needles when needed and finish off by drawing yarn through last 10 stitches.

K = Knit,  P = Purl,  RS = right side, tog = together, WS = wrong side

 

A Simply Scrumptious Scarf

Materials

Chinchilla (Berroco), 5 skeins
Glace (Berroco), 1 skein
Six 9 needles, crochet hook
Size:72" * 10" (excluding fringe)

Cast on 36 stitches with Chinchilla. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) attaching next skein as necessary, working tails into knitting. Continue until about one yard of yarn remains: bind off. For fringe, cut Glace into about 150, 15" lengths. To fringe scarf edge: take two pieces of Glace, fold in half, with crochet hook pull loop through one bound off stitch, then draw Glace tails through loop; pull tight. Repeat with each bound off and cast on stitch !

 

A Beanie Baby Sweater

Materials
Cleckheaton - one skein
one set - size 9 double point needles

Cast on 30 stitches, divide on four needles (10,5,10,5). K1P1 for five rounds. Increase one stitch in the first and last stitch on each needle for one round, followed by a plain knit round. repeat five times until you have (20,15,20,15) on four needles. Slip the 15 stitches on two lengths of contrasting color waste thread. Knit the remaining 40 stitches on four needles (10,10,10,10) then rib three rounds, then bind off. Pick up each of the 15 stitches (sleeves) on three needles (5,5,5) knit two rounds, rib two rounds then bind off. Decorate with duplicate stitch or colors to stripe. Personalize that beanie-baby gift !!!
