KNITTING IN CLOSE QUARTERS

If you're going to be knitting while traveling, especially on an airplane, it's much easier to knit on circular needles than on straight ones. Circular needles take up less elbowroom and tuck neatly into your bag. You don't need a pattern designed for circular needles, just knit back and forth in the usual way - as if you had two separate needles.

We have a full line of circular needles in the store, so drop by and try a pair out.

KNITTING WITH VARIEGATED & HAND-DYED YARNS

Variegated yarns knit up in patches of color instead of the tangled look the skeins have. The design of the patches may change when you knit a sleeve or front because of the change in the width of the knitting. To minimize patching, knit two rows from one ball of yarn, then two rows from another, then two rows from the first etc. You'll have short yarn ends at the edge, but the colors will be evenly distributed.

BELIEVE IN BUTTONS

Don't always use the same buttons on a child's sweater - use all different ones or all the same style but different colors. Buttons aren't just for fastening - embellish a collar, a pocket or a cuff. It will make wearing your gift all the more "fun"tastic..
